Our Story
Rooted in Tradition, Served with Love
Located in Alameda, California, the food of Sidestreet Pho finds its roots in the pots and pans of the curbside vendors of pre-war Vietnam. As a child, owner/chef Hanh Nguyen enjoyed the simple but fresh dishes such as Bún, Gỏi Cuốn, and Phở served to her right on the streets of Saigon.
After the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, the Nguyen family struggled to find the same food here in America. In an endeavor to spread Vietnamese culture, Hanh’s mother opened one of the earliest Vietnamese restaurants in the U.S.
Today, Sidestreet Pho completes the circle — offering the same delicious, authentic Vietnamese flavors in a clean, modern environment.
